It's Cattle Shipping Day, and once again, I'm making lunch for a fairly big crew of cowboys. No matter what time we end up eating, even if it's after dark, it's called "Shipping Day Lunch." This year, there's a possibility of 16 people, and it's cold outside, so I needed a big pot of something warm.
If you want to know more about what Shipping Day entails, please read my ranch blog post from a couple years ago!
In previous years, I've made my Rustic Chili or Beef Stew. This year, I wanted something a little different, especially since I just served up a big pot of chili for the cowboys a week or so ago.
I thought I'd share the Shipping Day Lunch Menu with you, so follow the links for recipes (stew recipe coming soon, and pictures will be coming soon too!)
As usual, * indicates a brand new recipes we haven't tried before. I do realize I have a "*" on the turkey...but doesn't it sound fabulous?
This Thanksgiving, we will be celebrating with some dear friends of ours, and honestly we feel like it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without them! We are so excited they will be joining us, and it's becoming a tradition that we all get together. I like it.
The other great thing about this year, Cath and I are basically sharing duties and dividing up the menu. It is such a relief, for both of us, to not have to "Do It All." Last year we had some help from Cath and other friends, but we still prepared most of the main dishes. I love cooking for people, but this year it's just nice to have some of the (self-imposed) pressure off, you know?
So here it is, our menu for Thanksgiving 2009. Some traditional dishes, some new, some already here, some will be posted after the holiday.
What a fabulous party, lots of our close friends and relatives, amazing food, delicious sangrias and punch, and just good company. The weather was perfect, everyone loved the house, and we all had a great time. The last of the party guests didn't leave until after 9PM!
We had tons of last-minute help the day of the party from our friends Alice, Doug, Catherine and Kevin, and probably couldn't have pulled it off without them! Thank you!!!!!
Here's the menu. Keep checking back for more recipe links, I'll update the post as the recipes go up.
I've created this site as a place everyone can come and post their favorite recipes...to share with friends, to encourage experimentation, to enjoy cooking for our families.
It is my hope that each of us will find new family favorites, have some fun, and maybe even learn something in the process! If you try a recipe from this site, please leave a comment on that recipe, let us know how it went, what you loved, what you hated, what you modified, etc! We want to know! Any (non-Spam) comments are welcome!
I look forward to frequent posts from all Bad Girls! I know you're all out there cooking, so tell us what!
If you'd like an invite to post recipes on this blog and become a Bad Girl, please leave a comment here. (include your email address!) Join us!
