  1. Hi, My name is Becky and Mindy invited me to check out your blog . Looks fun and I 'm anxious to try some of your recipes. What is your policy on sharing recipes from books?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Hi Becky!
For the record, if a recipe is from a published source, it must be clearly stated in your post. NO plagiarism! If the cookbook is sold on amazon, or you got the recipe from a website, please put in a hyperlink (ask me if you need help).

Please also make note if you've modified the recipe to suit your taste, or made any other changes, etc.

We look forward to some delicious recipes!

  21. Hi,

I am afraid I have to drop out. I am finding it one thing more than I can handle, right now. If I take on a commitment, I keep it and I am not keeping it now.

If I find more time, I will be back, if you will take me.

Love the blog. You are doing many wonderful things here.

    I will be visiting.

  25. Panera's Broccoli Cheese Soup (modified by Wendy D.)

    8 tablespoons butter, divided
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    1 quart half-and-half
8 cups chicken or vegetable stock
2 1/2 pounds broccoli, steamed and roughly chopped
1 pound carrots, finely grated (about 3 cups)
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg or more, to taste
1 pound sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

    1. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in 8-quart soup pot. Saute chopped onoin in melted butter until soft; set aside.
    2. Melt remaining 6 tablespoons butter in same pot. Add flour and whisk over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes.
    3. Whisking constantly, add half-and-half. Continue whisking until smooth.
    4. Add stock, whisking until combined.
    5. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    6. Add the broccoli, carrots, and reserved oinion. Cook over low heat until veggies are tender, 20 to 25 minutes.
    7. Blend if desired, preferably with an immersible blender.
    8. Add grated cheese and stir over medium-low heat until cheese is melted.
    9. Stir in nutmeg, salt, and pepper to taste.

NOTE: I steam broccoli in microwave. Add more stock if the soup is too thick for your taste. However, though it's quite thick when cool, it seems just right to me when hot. Serve with crusty bread and perhaps an apple pie for dessert.

  28. Hi Mindy,
Wendy thought you might like to post this recipe of Moist Chocolate Cake.
    So here goes:
    Moist Chocolate Cake
2 cups sugar 1/2 tsp. salt
3 cups flour 1 cup oil
1/3 heaping cup cocoa 2 large eggs
    2 tsp. soda 2 c. hot water
    1 tsp. baking powder 2 T. vanilla

    Preheat oven to 350'.
Sift together sugar, flour, cocoa, soda, baking powder, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Add liquid shortening; then add eggs,
hot water, and vanilla. Beat and bake in dripper pan for
30-40 min., or it makes 3 layers or jelly roll pan (15-20 min.). I usually make it in a jelly roll pan, and frost it with chocolate frosting-powdered sugar, cocoa, butter, dash of salt, vanilla, and warm milk to the consistency I want. It makes a big cake. Super moist and delicious.

This recipe is from "American Fork's Historical Recipe Book"

Hope you enjoy it, we really like it.

  37. Hi! I found your blog and have spent the entire morning perusing and find recipes I want to try. I'm an American living in Vienna, Austria and I miss my American food, so I am always cooking. I've also learned quite a few Bavarian and Austrian dishes that are delicious and simple and really easy to make.
We have a blog about our experiences as a multi-cultural couple, but it's mostly about my experiences, as an ex-pat.

This is one of my favorite Austrian recipes.
